Description

Scottish liqueur
The most popular drink of Scotland is, of course, is whiskey. Also in this country there are many liqueurs made on the basis of whiskey. Liquor "Atholl Brose" is one of them. Tradition to make a whiskey-based liqueurs, sweetened with sugar or, more often, honey, dates back to the very early period of the manufacture of whiskey. And this has two explanations. "Water of life" uisge beatha was originally used as a medicine and were used for storing medical or simply sedative properties of plants. Very soon learned how to make harmonious tinctures based on herbs and plants of Scotland. And besides, because of imperfect process of distillation of the first Scottish vodka was rough and unpleasant to the taste. And as the first consumers had neither the time nor the experience to improve their quality, exposing a long maturation, they insisted on plants, and to mitigate the taste of the added honey. Thus, more pleasant drink. For a very long time recipes of liquors was kept in the family or was the secret of the place where they were made, and the liqueurs were never delivered to the market. Only in the early 20th century was the first attempt of sale of liqueur based on whiskey, and it was a success. I suggest the home version of the liqueur. There is even a legend that in the Middle ages the castle of one of the Duke was trying to capture, and he was ordered to fill this liquor in the well of his castle, causing the invaders were drunk and were defeated!

Cooking

step-0
Initially, for making liqueur, grain oats and pounded with a mortar and pestle, but now the modern food industry facilitates our task of producing cereal! For the preparation of liqueur I used the Hercules company "Mistral"
step-1
Boil water and allow to cool to 60-70 degrees. Oat flakes pour this hot water and leave for 1 hour
step-2
Strain through a sieve or cheesecloth and squeeze well the rest. Sami flakes in liquor is not used
step-3
Now add honey. Ideally should be Heather honey - it has a special piquancy and bitterness. In the absence of Heather honey you can use buckwheat or taiga honey (i.e., honey should be tart).
step-4
To add to this oatmeal-honey water good Scotch 12 year old whisky.
step-5
Like this drink you should get. This liqueur does not require soaking. Pour it into a nice bottle and you are ready to try. As oatmeal extract to settle, then you need to drink a pre-shake the bottle. The calculation of the ingredients given on the bottle with a capacity of 0.5 liters
step-6
I'm not a big fan of whiskey, and pure, I prefer cognac. But in this liquor, it is very appropriate. Liquor obtained is not cloying, and very pleasant, with a honey aftertaste. Still, the Scots know a lot about this!
