So, June 28, 1820, it was proved that tomatoes are edible. They definitely considered poisonous. So, in the book "Complete guide to gardening", published in Denmark in 1774, it was reported that "the fruits of their extremely harmful, as maddening to those who eat". In 1776, the personal chef of George Washington, James Bestli tried to poison the future President, giving him lunch hot, liberally garnished with fresh tomatoes. Washington the prejudice suffered and ate with gusto all the while the cook was so confident in the success of his plan, he immediately reported to the commander of the British troops on the elimination of the commander-in-chief of the colonists. Washington lived another 23 years, and the letter somehow got to the destination and had been in the stash for over forty years until it was discovered... Yes, Yes, 28 June 1820. Version of the extreme toxicity of tomatoes lasted in Europe about a hundred years. Perhaps it has spawned that the fact that the Indians of Mexico, where the tomatoes was taken by the Spaniards and Portuguese in the XVI century, considered them unfit to eat.
