For the first time the drink appeared in France in the 17th century during the reign of Louis I. At court it was made out of weak lemon liqueur and lemon juice. According to legend, the appearance of the drink is associated with almost fatal mistake of a Royal cupbearer. He inadvertently instead of wine dipped in a glass of monarch lemon juice, in order to correct this reckless act, he added in a glass of water and sugar. The king appreciated the drink and ordered it to cook on hot days.
