Szulik honey with poppy seeds
"And why is it every time we want to pamper their loved ones with something new, tasty and unusual, then be sure to choose some foreign cuisine?" So I thought, once again wondering what would come up sweet. Ask any passer-by, what kind of candy best and probably 80 percent, will exclaim: "why the Orient." Is not his own and equally delicious? He who seeks will always find! Here I am found! To my shame, I never even heard of this baking, and my grandma and mom never baked. And let this traditional dish for Maccabeus, but that's no reason to deny yourself the simple pleasures of life in the gloomy days of November.

Ingredients

  • Chicken egg

  • Honey

    5 Tbsp

  • Mac

    4 Tbsp

  • Milk

    0.5 cup

  • Butter

    1 Tbsp

  • Flour

    2 cup

  • Vodka

    20 ml

Wash 1 tablespoon poppy pour boiling water and leave for 15-20 minutes. Then drain the water and poppy seeds to dry on a napkin.

Good RUB with egg, 1 tablespoon of honey and mix with dried poppy.

Add to this mix the milk, melted butter and... vodka. More familiar, of course, use quicklime soda. But there are two "but". First, the recipe is quite long and I very much doubt that ordinary farmers could afford to use in baking, albeit festive, baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), most likely, it was the Mead or brew. And secondly, the soda in baking I always feel, even if it is slaked, to say nothing about quicklime. Thus, my choice fell on the use of traditional folk products, i.e. vodka (for lack of a brew:) ).

Added to our mix the flour and knead rather stiff dough.

Roll out the dough to a thickness of 2-3 mm and spread on a greased baking sheet. Traditionally prepared szulik irregular shape, as are made by breaking off small pieces of the total cake. But then I purely for aesthetic purposes deviated from tradition and made rectangular cuts on the test. Baked our cake in a preheated 160 degree oven until light Golden brown, you should have a crust, but inside it is still soft (but not soggy).

While our cake is baked, make the filling. Remaining Mak rinse and pour boiling water for 15 minutes. Then drain the water, poppy seeds dry and grind in a blender or grind in a mortar, a little (just a teaspoon) adding water until you reach the consistency of liquid sour cream.

Mix the poppy seeds with the remaining liquid honey, our filling is ready.

Spekreijse Korzh remove from oven and break into pieces. Now it becomes clear, what was made of the cuts - they greatly simplify this process. Fill our szulik honey with poppy gravy and allow to soak for 20-30 minutes and enjoy the taste national Ukrainian cuisine.
