Lately I am drawn to simple recipes simple and rustic cuisine. This cake is one of those recipes. It was prepared by my great-grandmother. They lived in a small village Vidogame, on the left Bank of the Volga. And my mom still often says that when she was little, my grandmother baked in the oven this pie. Then put the samovar and the whole family, and the kids were almost 10 people together drank tea with cake and strawberries. Cottage pie was very popular at the time. In the village home, the chickens were a delicacy, a potato and millet were planted in every yard. My mother often baked this cake, though not in the furnace and in the oven. Incredibly tasty pie, though made with the simplest of ingredients.

Prepare all the products. In its original form, the cake is cooked with the grain. But I will do cottage pie in a new way, with millet flakes (Mistral). It turns out as good, but saves the time needed for boiling millet.
Butter ruble cubes, put in a deep bowl. Add salt and flour. Rubbing fingers to a state of fine crumbs. Then add the egg and ice water.
Knead a soft elastic dough. Wrap it in cling film and put into the fridge for 30 minutes. At this time, make the filling.
In a saucepan pour the millet flakes, pour boiling water in the ratio 1:2, cover with lid and leave for 3-5 minutes.
Chicken cut into pieces, separate the meat from the bones. Fry the pieces of meat in a frying pan with vegetable oil. Literally 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Clean onions, cut his rings. Potatoes peel and cut thin slices.
A baking pan smeared with butter. Chilled dough is divided into two unequal parts: 1/3 and 2/3. The most part put in the form, and knead with your fingers along the bottom and sides, making high sides (5 cm).
Placed filling. Salt and pepper should be distributed on 3 layers. First, put the finished millet flakes, pressed with a spoon. On top put the onions, sliced rings. Add a part of salt and black pepper.
Then stack the potato slices. Sprinkle with half of thyme, part salt and pepper. Good press. The last layer - fried pieces of chicken, Bay leaf, remaining thyme, salt and pepper.
The second part of the test put it on the table, dusted with flour. Gently roll with a rolling pin into a circle. Rolling in the dough is not very convenient, so if it starts to crack, it is possible to moisten with water or grease with vegetable oil. A long knife lift the rolled out layer of dough and placed on top of the filling. Sexyplay the edges of the cake. In the center make a hole for steam output. In several places pierce the dough with a fork.
Put the pie in a preheated 200 degree oven for 1 hour.
